Webmaster Certificate Program Design

Official Program Description

The Webmaster Certification Program is a series of continuing education courses in website design, development, and programming. Classes are offered in a classroom environment. This program brings together an outstanding faculty, flexible and diverse course offerings, powerful computing resources, and affordable tuition.

Who Should Attend

This complete Webmaster Certificate Program is for individuals who want to create Web sites from the ground up. Little to no experience is needed in the area of Web programming. This program will take you from the very basics to completing a fully functional Web site.


It is suggested that you should have knowledge of a word processing package, Internet browsing, and the PC concepts.

Attend and You Will Learn

Foundation Track

This involves completing the three core classes. The learning objective here is to achieve solid fundamentals of scripting tools, e-commerce concepts, accessibility standards, and the overall functioning of a website.

  • XHTML level 1
  • XHTML level 2
  • JavaScript level 1

Specialization Track

You must complete the following courses in the specialization section to apply towards your webmaster certificate at NC State University.

Design Media Track: In the design media track you will learn web design principles, using style sheets to simplify the presentation, Dreamweaver as web editor to create web sites, and Flash to provide animation effects. You will learn the following technologies:

  • Cascading style sheets levels 1 and 2
  • Dreamweaver level 1
  • Web design
  • E-commerce
  • Web graphics
  • Design/usability/accessibility
  • Web technologies
  • Flash level 1

Capstone Project

This is a project summarization of everything that you have learned in the program so far. The project scope and the project deliverables are left to your discretion. The project should be completed in the time frame specified by the program manager and should be according to the specifications discussed before commencing the project.
